Towards a formal regimentation of the Navya-Nyāya technical language I

Navya-Nyāya is an early modern Indian system of philosophical analysis. It was founded by Udayana (c. 1050 CE), developed by Gaṅgeśa (c. 1200 CE), and reached its peak in the works of authors including Raghunātha (c. 1500 CE), Jagad̄ı́sa (c. 1600 CE) and Gadādhara (c. 1650 CE). The school is notable for its development of a technical language, by means of which it clarified many philosophical questions in the traditional Indian debate. This technical language rapidly became the standard idiom for academic works in Sanskrit, not only in philosophy, but in grammar, poetics, law, and other branches of study as well. A careful analysis of the conceptual framework and expressive power of the Navya-Nyāya technical language is therefore of considerable importance in the modern study of the Indian academic literature.
